What can you import duty free?
According to the customs rules of Azerbaijan, an individual has the right to bring with him 2 goods of the same type for personal use (for example, mobile phones or cameras).
If a person is found to have 3 pieces of equipment from the same company, then all of them are confiscated by customs officers. If a person intends to transport more than 2 units of the same equipment, then he must declare it and pay customs duty, since the import of 3 units of goods is considered commercial.
How to transport similar goods to Azerbaijan
The traveler has the right to import personal belongings totaling up to $10,000. You can import gasoline duty free, but only if it is in the tank of your car. The amount of permitted fuel is determined by the design of the vehicle.
Other goods that can be imported duty free:
- Alcohol no more than 3 liters per person;
- Perfumery;
- 600 cigarettes or 1 kilogram of smoking tobacco (for persons over 18 years old);
- 20 grams of gold or jewelry made from it;
- diamonds of 0.5 carats (necessarily processed and inserted into jewelry);
- up to 30 kg of food products (once a month);
- 5 kg of sturgeon fish;
- 125 grams of sturgeon caviar.
Import of medicines
It is allowed to administer medications that are not on the list of prohibited medications. It is prohibited to import more than 840 types of medicines into Azerbaijan. Their list can be viewed here.
When transporting a larger quantity of medicines, you must provide a prescription for the drug. The document must be signed by the chief physician of the medical institution where the traveler is being observed. The prescription indicates the name of the medication, its dosage, the quantity carried and the tourist’s diagnosis. It is necessary to prescribe that the medicine is necessary for therapy or maintenance of life.
How much alcohol and cigarettes can you import in 2021?
No more than 3 liters of alcoholic beverages can be imported into Azerbaijan without paying customs duties. The same rules for duty-free transport of alcohol apply in Russia.
You can take with you no more than 600 pieces (3 blocks) of cigarettes.
Prohibitions
It is prohibited to import weapons and ammunition into the Republic of Azerbaijan. The exception applies only to weapons intended for hunting.
A permit is required to transport a gun to the Azerbaijan Republic.
It is prohibited to transport drugs and narcotic substances, photographs and printed materials with pornographic content. The import ban applies to vegetables and fruits.
Required documents
At the customs point you will need to present a visa (if required for entry) and a passport. When crossing the border by car, you will need a health insurance policy, a technical passport for the vehicle and a driver's license. Insurance is issued for a minimum of 15 days. Price – 15 euros. If the duration of the trip is less than 30 days, then the car is not registered at customs.
Right-hand drive cars are not allowed into Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan opens land border to Russians
Azerbaijan unilaterally opened the land border for Russian citizens traveling to their homeland. Sputnik Azerbaijan correspondent Zarina Orudzhalieva was informed about this by the Executive Power (EP) of the Magaramkent region of Dagestan.
From Monday, June 7, Russian citizens can freely return to their homeland through the Samur checkpoint on the land border and the adjacent post in Yarag Kazmalyar (Dagestan).
Previously, Russian citizens had to sign up in a queue in order to go home at a certain time; now such a procedure is no longer necessary.
It should be noted that on Monday, Deputy State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan Asker Abdullayev arrived in Dagestan on an official visit, who, among other issues, discussed the easing of the access control regime on the border of Azerbaijan with Russia.
Customs rules when leaving
It is allowed to export handicrafts, souvenirs and other goods purchased in the Republic from Azerbaijan. Receipts serve as proof of purchase.
What cannot be exported
It is prohibited to export antiques from Azerbaijan. Ancient coins, manuscripts, and precious stones may be exported only with written permission from the Ministry of Culture.
The export ban applies to carpets and other products manufactured before 1960. Such items can only be exported if taxes are paid. The fee is not charged if the store issues a certificate to the buyer.

- live animals, except cats and dogs;

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia were established on April 4, 1992. The official trade alliance between Azerbaijan and Russia on oil transit was concluded on January 18, 1996.

Rules for the import and export of currency
Import and export of foreign currency is permitted in unlimited quantities. But any amount transported must be declared. You can export as much money as was indicated in the declaration at customs upon entry.
When exporting more than $1,000 in any currency, a tax payment of 1% of the transported amount is charged. Tourists are prohibited from importing and exporting the national currency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the manat. Citizens of Azerbaijan have the right to carry up to 500,000 manats.
