At the Kaplanbek customs post, heavy trucks stand idle for three days

There is unprecedented pandemonium on the border with Uzbekistan: more than 200 trucks have accumulated at the Kaplanbek checkpoint. Drivers complain that they have to sit in traffic jams for several days, and they are transporting perishable products. Outraged people blame Kazakhstani customs officers for everything. The checkpoint workers themselves admit the problem, but claim that they are not to blame, KTK reports.

The Kaplanbek customs post is now restless: there are kilometer-long traffic jams and scandals for days on end. Trucks carrying milk, meat, fruits and vegetables have to sit here for at least three days.

– I’m coming, I’ve been traveling from Moscow here for three days, three days. And I wait three days at the border. Just drive through Kazakhstan. This is what's going on here. Dust. There is not a single place, not even a toilet, not to wash, not to eat. We've been standing there for three days. “We can somehow solve this,” says driver Davlat Rakhimov.

This situation, drivers say, drives not only depression, but also debt. After all, no one needs damaged goods. And the migration service seems to specifically issue permits, not taking into account the kilometer-long traffic jams at the border.

– Yesterday I went through Uzbekistan on purpose so that I wouldn’t get a fine. When we pass, they ask: “Where are you going?” I say: “I’m going to Saryagach,” they make it for three days. I say: “But I don’t have time, there’s a line at the borders.” - "We do not care". All. The boards are already turning black and starting to rot. Then how will the client use them? This is why I will have complaints later. What do I have to do with it if the border doesn’t work? – driver Denis Frank is indignant.

Drivers claim that intermediaries have already taken advantage of the congestion. For a certain fee, they offer to resolve this or that issue as quickly as possible.

– They simply ask for 50 thousand tenge for printing. And they also ask to let the car through without checking. The price goes up to $100 or even more. Why do customs keep things like that, why don’t they let dogs in to make it faster? – driver Azamat Bauyrzhan.

But customs officers explain the congestion quite logically. They say that everything is because of the old bridge on the neutral zone of the Uzbek-Kazakh border. It is considered an emergency, hence the long wait.

– Yes, there are problems with cars that leave Kazakhstan. But it's not our fault. The thing is that there is an old emergency bridge in the neutral zone. And it can’t handle more than two cars. As a result, cars are forced to pass with long pauses, says Galymzhan Kulbaev, senior specialist at the Kaplanbek customs post.

But drivers have little faith in this version. They say that the same situation is now developing at other posts, but there are no emergency bridges there. No one knows who is to blame and what to do with the overdue cargo. Now the main task of drivers is to at least somewhere find some food and water until customs gives the go-ahead.

Azerbaijan and Armenia open customs posts on the Goris-Kapan road

Azerbaijan notified Armenia about the installation of a customs point on the Goris-Kapan highway section, the Armenian side will install its own checkpoint there, said Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan.
