Is it possible to transport caviar on an airplane: the nuances of transportation in checked luggage and hand luggage

At
customs clearancecaviar must be presented at customs with a veterinary certificate issued by the veterinary service of the country of origin, which confirms the safety of the product for health and its quality. The entire customs clearance procedure consists of successive stages.
ATTENTION! We work only with legal entities.

Features of customs clearance of caviar

To decorate caviar, several conditions must be met:

  1. Inclusion of the manufacturer in the Rosselkhoznadzor register.
  2. Providing a veterinary certificate of the country of origin, on the basis of which an import veterinary certificate will be issued by the Russian Veterinary Service represented by an employee of Rosselkhoznadzor.

The specifics of customs clearance are affected by:

  • type of customs procedure;
  • type of cargo;
  • type of vehicle;
  • category of foreign trade participants.

What product category does caviar belong to?

When transporting canned food in luggage, it is necessary to comply with customs regulations for import and export

The simplest classification of caviar for the average person is dividing it into red and black. Although, according to GOSTs, everything is much more complicated. Depending on the type of raw materials and production method, the product can be classified into one of seven types, the most famous of which are grainy salmon, grainy sturgeon and grainy canned salmon.

However, from the point of view of airport workers, caviar belongs to “liquids”. After all, the requirements for its transportation on board an aircraft are regulated by the rules for water-based products (which, by the way, includes any canned food - fish and meat, as well as vegetable preparations).

Importing countries

The main countries importing caviar to Russia are:

  • China;
  • Uruguay;
  • Armenia;
  • Italy;
  • Moldova;
  • Iran;
  • Israel;
  • Bulgaria;
  • Belarus.

It must be borne in mind that the import of goods from countries included in the sanctions list is prohibited. These countries include:

  • Ukraine;
  • USA;
  • Albania;
  • Montenegro;
  • Norway;
  • Australia;
  • Canada;
  • Iceland;
  • Liechtenstein;
  • countries of the European Union.

Note! If caviar is exported abroad, then some restrictions apply. For example, each individual can export no more than 250 g of black caviar if all the documents are present. Such norms are explained by a decrease in the sturgeon population. Moreover, the weight of imported caviar is limited in some cases by the receiving country. The European Union and the United States do not allow more than 125 g of black caviar. There are no restrictions in Belarus and Kazakhstan. If we are talking about red caviar, then you can export up to 5 kg.

How to properly carry black and red caviar on a plane

Caviar is a perishable product, so without proper packaging it loses its quality

There is no ban on transporting caviar on an airplane in any country in the world. However, transportation standards set by customs authorities may vary significantly depending on the country.

There are two transportation options, just like any other cargo, in the case of caviar:

  • you can put it in your hand luggage and take it with you into the cabin of the aircraft;
  • or you can pack it in a suitcase, bag, backpack or box and check it in as luggage (in this case, cargo of this kind must be declared for reliability).

The specific limit on the number of jars of caviar that a passenger can take with him is determined in each country. It is worth studying these rules before the flight. The export of the product from Russia is also regulated. For example, from our country a tourist can take no more than 5 kg of product abroad duty-free. Black caviar can be exported in quantities of 250 g.

Carry-on baggage limit

An individual transporting sturgeon caviar must have with him documents confirming the legality of its acquisition.

If we talk about jars with a volume of 0.1 liters, then you can take no more than 10 pieces. Thus, the limit set for “liquid” products in hand luggage at 1 liter will be observed. In addition, it is important to remember that there should not be any other liquids in the caviar bag.

The type of caviar - red or black - does not matter when transported in hand luggage. You can take 1 liter of salmon or sturgeon caviar into the airplane cabin.

How many kilograms can you check in luggage?

Caviar can be carried in luggage, the main thing is not to exceed its maximum weight established by the airline

There are no restrictions on this matter. At least for Russians traveling by plane to another Russian city or to another country. Problems with exceeding the amount of caviar allowed for import may arise in a foreign country (depending on the rules established there). However, in the Russian Federation, airport employees will not prohibit a passenger from checking in as many cans of the delicacy as he wants.

Types of products

Depending on the season, various types of caviar are imported (exported):

  • Red caviar of various fish species, such as pink salmon, coho salmon, salmon, sockeye salmon, chum salmon, trout.
  • Black caviar of sterlet and sturgeon.
  • Sea urchin caviar.
  • Breakout caviar of halibut, pike, herring, pollock, pike perch and others.

How much caviar can be transported according to the rules?

Export of caviar by legal entities

I will not talk about legal entities because... This is generally a taboo topic nowadays. But I can say one thing: for the export of caviar by a legal entity, and even more so the export of caviar, a lot of documents and a ready-made concluded supply agreement with approval will be required. And only the manufacturer can act as an exporter. As practice shows, there are those who want to receive imports, but there are almost no people who want to export. Chinese black caviar has completely captured the market. Therefore, before you buy black caviar, find out where it actually comes from, because beautiful jars can now be made for 400,000 rubles per batch with the inscription Astrakhan caviar
