Border checkpoints to Finland

11 Jun, 2013Customs and border

Photos

Today, on the state border between Russia and Finland, there are eight multilateral vehicle checkpoints (MACPs), through which you can cross the border in a personal car and enter Finland.

By 2021, another international automobile checkpoint at the Syväoro international checkpoint will be built, which will be located in the Lakhdenpokhsky district (100 kilometers north of Vyborg). The border crossing procedure at each point is standard. It should be remembered that at each Russian checkpoint there is a change of personnel (shift change), which occurs the same everywhere: in the morning at 8:00 and in the evening at 20:00. The shift of working personnel lasts about 30 minutes. During shift changes, checks and border crossings on the Russian side are not carried out, which will accordingly prolong the border crossing procedure. The Finns have no concept of shift change. Finnish personnel change and take over quite quickly, and the process of crossing the border practically does not stop. Depending on where you are going from Russia and where you are going to Finland, it is advisable to choose a suitable border crossing point.
