Pipes of this heading are produced, for example, by welding or riveting pre-formed, open tubular sections obtained from flat rolled products.
Tubular profiles can be manufactured:
— in longitudinal or spiral directions in continuous mode using a block of rollers, using flat rolled products in rolls;
— in the longitudinal direction in an intermittent mode using a press or roller machine, using flat products not in rolls.
For weldments, the butt edges are welded without filler metal by flash welding, or by resistance welding, induction welding, or arc welding with filler metal, flux, or gas to prevent oxidation. As for riveted products, the joined edges are overlapped and connected with rivets.
The articles of this heading may be covered, for example, with plastic or glass wool in combination with bitumen.
These products include main pipes of the type used for oil or gas pipelines, casing pipes for oil or gas wells, pipes for water mains or slurry pipes for coal or other solid material, pipes for sheet piling or construction columns, and for hydroelectric power applications. pipelines, usually reinforced with reinforcing rings.
***
This heading does not include:
(a) pipes and hollow sections of heading 73.03, 73.04 or 73.06.
(b) pipeline fittings of ferrous metals (heading 7307).
(c) pipes assembled into specific defined products.
Explanations for subheadings
Subheadings 7305 11, 7305 12, 7505 19 and 7305 20.
The provisions of the Explanatory Notes to subheadings 7304 10, 7304 21 and 7304 29 apply, mutatis mutandis, to these subheadings.
Subheading 7305 11
This subheading includes pipes made from sheet steel by pressing or rolling, as well as by electric arc welding with the addition of metal and flux to prevent oxidation of the metal at the time of melting.
After welding, a bead of metal remains, a “weld,” which is clearly visible on the outer surface of the resulting pipe.
Subheading 7305 12
This subheading covers primarily pipes made from coils of sheet steel by continuous forming on a forming roll line and resistance or induction welding without the addition of metal. After welding, there is no metal bead on the outer surface of the resulting pipe.
